    Project Purpose
Multiple sequence alignments are essential for many areas of biology and bioinformatics. Recently, there have been several multiple sequence alignment benchmarks ("gold standard") for proteins, but there is a void in respect to DNA benchmarks. These needed DNA benchmarks are now available in the download section of this page.

Along with the creation of the benchmarks, a case study on the performance (and ranks) of the most commonly used alignment programs is available in the publications section of this page. More than 3,500 alignments were performed with each of the alignment programs in order to determine their over-all ranks on DNA alignments.
